On most days, I could tell you that I love books and reading and be satisfied that you knew everything worth knowing about me. Then we could talk about you. Or the books you are reading.
I live in the East-coast city I moved to after getting my first job after college. 11 years later, I haven't left. I haven't even moved within the city much. Mostly because I don't want to move my rapidly increasing piles of books. Someday I'd like to have a little house with room(s) for all my books, in the country somewhere so I could walk outside at midnight and see a skyful of stars.
Non-reading interests that may sneak into my posts:
~ Football - In the fall, I am usually in front of the TV all day on Saturdays watching games. New Years Day is dedicated to bowl games. By the beginning of the next season, though, I've forgotten everything that happened the previous season. The grown-ups weren't kidding when they said your memory gets worse when you get older.
~ Musical theatre (watching, not performing) - If I weren't so lazy, I'd take better advantage of living in this city and see more shows. The last show I saw was 25th anniversary production of "Les Mis." J. Mark McVey was wonderful as Valjean.
~ Vegging out in front of the TV eating chocolate (and, occasionally, veggies) - I assert that "So You Think You Can Dance" is the best dance show on TV. In non-reality TV, "The Big Bang Theory" always makes me laugh. "Ich bin ein Bavarian! Und ich bin eine pretzel!" (German spelling may be inaccurate.) I'm also eagerly following the new season of "Downton Abbey" on PBS.
I am in two book groups. One is with a few women from church and focuses on the classics. I will call this Book Group Austen because we are all big fans of Jane. The other is a group that started when a pair of sisters invited 3 friends over for dinner, and we started talking about books. Although the membership has changed over time, the group is still going strong after several years. We read a wide variety of books, from childhood classics to histories to contemporary non-fiction to graphic novels. I will call this Book Group Bronte because we read Jane Eyre, and I don't think the boys would be quite as willing to try Austen.
For the most part, I am going to try to be positive on this blog. If I don't like a book, I won't write about it. I may have posts about books that I partly liked and partly didn't like, in which case I'll mention only the things I liked or think others would like. I realize this might not be helpful, but at least if I really liked a book and wholeheartedly recommend it, you'll be able to tell because I will gush.
Most of my comments will also be posted in my Goodreads account. All books I read have been bought or borrowed from friends or the library, so I won't be posting about books that haven't been released yet. All opinions are my own (not that anyone else would want to claim them), unless otherwise noted.
